Happy Holidays and Thank You
The trout glory of the 2011 season has given way to winter rivers and a few fish still sipping midges in the snowy afternoons. 2011 was a season of plenty of water which gave us the best flows for the late summer in over a decade. Those great levels bode well for a burgeoning trout population that never had to endure the low warm water years like we had in the mid 2000's that plagued the American West. This season firmly put A Classic Journey in place as the busiest and best outfitting company in Western Montana. Our success is completely tied to our customers loyalty and word of mouth referrals. There are lots of places to visit in the trout game, and we appreciate each time you choose to fish with us.
The greatest asset of any business is its people and we are fortunate to have all our guides returning for the 2012 season. For the last six seasons we have had almost no staff turnover, so if a trip with a veteran guide is on your new year's resolution list please give us a call.
Facts About Missoula Trout Population After The Dam Removal
- The major structural obstacle of Milltown dam has been removed which can no longer stop the 20,000 fish annually it prevented from spawning.
- The first major spawning class that is pouring back into the system will be 15 inches or larger in 2012.
- The state of Montana recorded an 80% increase in adult rainbows in the Upper Clark Fork.
- The adult rainbow population in the lower Clark Fork is projected to double.
- The dam removal also allows our population to use all 300 miles of the Missoula systems to adjust to macro environmental conditions, thus our population will be larger, resilient, and stable.
