The Belize River Lodge

This is the only operator that
fishes the flats in this area of the upper coast. It is too long a
run for the glut of anglers that fish Ambergris and the next one south
is way out on Turneffe atoll. This makes this a unique experience,
because the only boats you will see are Belize River Lodge boats.
This is classic style bonefishing. Tailing fish in shallow water that
you can stalk is what defines the bonefishing flats. These fish are
still on the smaller side, 1-4lbs, but bigger fish are present and
you really can catch a bunch of them if you want to spend a day just
bonefishing. Hunting these guys is a nice diversion if the tarpon or
permit are off the bite.
Permit fishing out of Belize River Lodge is a
secret plus that isn't fished much. Everyone knows about the flats down south in Placencia,
but there are flats built the same way, just a short ride from the
Lodge. These are classic pancake flats with blue edges that permit
love so much. You will find tailing and mudding permit here, in fact
the most permit I have seen in a single day came over mudding permit
we chased around a flat one March afternoon- Huge Schools of Fins!
We really feel that a serious permit fisherman can easily make a week
of it here and enjoy some stellar giant tarpon fishing as well. Not
many places on the planet can offer those two options in a major way.

Tarpon fishing has always been the highlight
reason for anglers visiting this lodge. There are resident
giant Tarpon 100 lbs+ to be had on any given day on the flats just
outside the mouth of Belize River.
That legitimate shot at a giant 12 months a
year make Belize River Lodge extremely special. When you
add in the fact that in late Spring you will see the migratory fish
show up on the flats, you find that if you chase Tarpon and enjoy
all the battles that come with that sport, this is a place you have
to fish. The Bottom Line about Belize
This is the best all around location we have found for
all levels of anglers and all species. For the Tarpon junkies you have a year round fishery for
the big boys. For the Permit heads, you have southern
flats right off the front porch and for the beginner you have a ton of bonefish
on the flats that will school you, spool you, and bend your rod. We recommend this trip
without any hesitation to any level of angler.

Missoula is the world's
best rising fishing complex. No where else can you push a dry fly with
utter confidence starting in March and never have to go beneath the
surface again until November.

Look in our guide boats. You won't see
strike indicators and double beaded nymph rigs rigged up in the rod holsters
ready to be handed off to our guests. You WILL see many concoctions of
different dry fly patterns that fool trout, such as: parachutes of all
shades, CDC on scud hooks, spinners, snowshoe emergers, Wulffs, Trudes,
Big Foamies, Little Foamies, Feth Hoppers, Half Down Stoneflies, Low
Pro Stones, and some secret guide flies that just seem to make them eat
it. So if you want to SEE trout come to your fly, then Missoula Fly Fishing
is for YOU!
